Your favourite The Little Gym story?

- There are many favorite stories when I think back about the years I’ve been part of The Little Gym. And since I’ve been connected with The Little Gym for such a long time, there is not a specific ‘favourite’ story but probably a combination of stories. But the fact that I still surprise people when I talk about my ‘job’ is probably the best story. It seems hard for some to understand that there is something like this, to enjoy waking up in the morning because I can go to The Little Gym and do what I like best. It’s my favorite thing to do and therefore it doesn't feel like a job, but more like a hobby. A 40  hour per week hobby!

How did you get interested in sports?
- As a young girl I wanted to do gymnastics only because of the beautiful leotard. But soon I realized it was hard work and it required a lot of determination. Still I loved every minute of it, even the blisters on my hands after a bar routine. I was mediocre, but only after my 14th birthday I got the hang of it and began to win big tournaments. Too late… still I learned a lot about myself during this period in life and I also learned to not give up if you really want something.

I didn’t really like school, so although I didn’t want to become physical education teacher, I still started the Sports Academy to become one. And I’m glad I did!

What do you love to do in your free time?
- I like to spend time with my children, partner and the rest of our family. Have an outdoor breakfast or go to the beach enjoying the weather is our favorite way to spend a free day.

What can't you live without?
- Good food, good wine, a good salsa dance and good company.

Where have you lived?
- I’m born in a little village in the south of The Netherlands, Tegelen and have lived in Reuver until I was 18. I moved to Tilburg and later to Estoril in Portugal when it was time for my final traineeship. After my graduation I found a job at The Little Gym of Amsterdam and live in the capital for four year. I then moved back to the south; Eindhoven. After travelling the world for a year we settled down in Leiden, where we still live.

How did you get interested in sports?
- It all started with Soccer. After a couple of years my interests shifted towards the Martial Arts. For several years I practiced Judo, Taekwondo, Wushu and Kickboxing in consecutive order. Around the age of 18 I started with Gymnastics, a relative old age for Gymnastics, but with a lot of determination I spent more time on gymnastics than on anything else. I still look back on that period with a lot of Fun!

What do you love to do in your free time?
- At the moment I enjoy spending most of my free time on studying, especially because it means I get to read which I love to do! I also enjoy a class of yoga every week together with my girlfriend and I make an active effort to meet my friends for a lunch or game of ’30 Seconds’.

What can't you live without?
- Books! If I am not moving I am reading. Depending on my interest at the moment I will read something on cultural anthropology, child development or a classic novel; I loved Anna Karenina by Tolstoi.

Where have you lived?
- I was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We lived there until I was 19 and then the family moved to Almere in The Netherlands. After my studies of Human Movement Sciences, Msc, I moved to London to work for a year at The Little Gym of Chiswick. And now I thoroughly enjoy living in Benoordenhout in The Hague.

How did you get interested in sports?
- Starting from an early age I have been actively engaged in sports. I started with preschool gymnastics. I was enjoying myself very much as long as I did not have to climb and stand on the beam. For this reason my parents decided after a year to let me try rhythmic gymnastics. I absolutely loved the combination of dance, the different materials, ballet and gymnastics. Surely my greatest success is that I have taken part in various international competitions.

I stopped rhythmic gymnastics when I was 15 years old because my interests shifted to dance and later to various fitness classes.

What do you love to do in your free time?
- I find it very important to spend a lot of time with my family and friends. Doing fun activities together, going to a restaurant, the cinema or just playing a game for fun.

I also love to train hard! At least 2 times per week you can find me at the fitness in a GRIT class. This is a high intensity workout in which you always try to challenge yourself and push yourself to the limit.

Where have you lived?
- I was born in Alphen a/d Rijn and I am now living in Waddinxveen. This is a village near Gouda. I really like it over there. It is fairly quiet, but I still have all the facilities I need and with only a 20 minute drive I am in the city.

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

- Every day we experience a lot of different things at The Little Gym, but what I like to tell to other people about The Little Gym is that we make lots of fun. We not only focus on physical skills, which is very important, but we have lots of ‘serious  fun’. That makes it really nice to work at The Little Gym!

How did you get interested in sports?
- I have always been very interested in sports. My mom and dad did a lot of sports as well, like playing soccer and tennis. I decided to start with gymnastics, which I did with a lot of joy for eight years. I really lienjoy playing in a team, so when I was 14, I started to play soccer, just like my mom and dad. Besides playing soccer, I also do zumba, which is a sort of dance, once a week. It’s very nice to join a competition with soccer, but It’s also important to me to just have some fun with friends.

What do you love to do in your free time?
- In my free time, I spend a lot of time at my soccer club. Besides that, I also like it to go out for dinner and to spend some time with family and friends.

What can't you live without?
- I can’t live without my family and friends and without the sun :)

Where have you lived?
- Since I was born I live in Wassenaar and I think I will never leave that place. It’s a beautiful village with a nice center and the beach is nearby! I have a lot of friends and family there and I really like it to live in Wassenaar.

- Children develop when they feel safe and familiar. For me it's a great challenge to give the children this feeling. Think of the Funny Bug that start their first lesson with mom or dad on the side of the class, and after a couple of classes they have enough confidence to join the class alone. And when they are older, I see the challenge to continue to improve their self-confidence while they develop their very own identity.

How did you get interested in sports?
- At a young age I started gymnastics, but when I was about 12, my motivation become less. I started the sport 'vaulting', where you perform gymnastics on a galloping horse. I was so motivated that I started to teach children vaulting lessons. Currently I also enjoy horse riding. Because I like teaching children, I ended up at The Little Gym.

What do you love to do in your free time?
- Vaulting, going out with friends and travelling.

What can't you live without?
- Family, friends and animals.

Where have you lived?
- I was born in Voorschoten and currently still living in Voorschoten.

What is your favorite The Little Gym story?
- From the moment that I started working at The Little Gym in 2014 I have experienced many Fun moments. Fun Moments together with collegues during a training or lunch and ofcourse together with the children who are always ready to make you laugh with a fun story. I love seeing the children grow from class to class. It can be quite challenging and even scary for a child to try a new exercise or activity and I enjoy helping them get more confortable and grow in confidence in order to try the new exercise or activity.

How did you get interested in sports?
- From the moment I was little I would run around, climb in trees and top of everything else. I started walking at the age of 10 months and from the moment I could walk I wanted to run, from the moment I could run I wanted to cycle and this drive I have continious to this day. My parents decided to enroll me in gymnastics at the age of 4 and I participated in gymnastics untill I was 16 years old. I have been physically active for my whole life, including the time now that I enjoy at The Little Gym.

What do you love to do in your free time?
- On the days that I am off I love to relax and enjoy the weather. I also really enjoy spending time with my family and boyfriend. During the weekends I enjoy dancing until the morning comes :)

What can’t you live without?
- Family, friends & boyfriend!

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

- There are just too many stories to tell, working with kids is a joy every day, because of the progression that I see them make in every class. My personal favorites are the Funny Bugs that learn to have fun in class without one of the parents inside. Seeing them to participate in the program is wonderful to see. Or when a child is afraid to do a new trick, and they have so much confidence in me as a teacher that they will do the trick anyway and succeed.

How did you get interested in sports?
- Well… I never really was a big sports fan. I did it mostly because I had to. Until I started working at The Little Gym and I realized that exercising is so much more than just a physical activity, iit does so much for you mental health as well

What do you love to do in your free time?
- Because I have a 2 year old daughter I don’t really have much of free time, but when I do I love to go out and have lunch. And on the days that I’m not working you can find me in places like the zoo or a playground with my little girl.

What can't you live without?
- My family!

Where have you lived?
- Leiderdorp, because I worked at a youth detention centre that was closer to Leiderdorp then Rotterdam.

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

- Thinking back of all those Little Gym moments from the last 5 years, I need to say there are quite a lot. I don’t really know which story to tell, but I have about thousands of great memories. Thinking of all the shy children that came in the gym, and all those self confident, comfortable children who they turned in to. But I’m thinking of those moms and dads as well, who were too scared to do anything with their little ones as they were only little babies. Now those moms and dads have improved so much and they are very comfortable with their little ones in the gym! Such great moments for me as an instructor to think back at.

How did you get interested in sports?
- Ever since I was a little girl I was inspired by the ballerina’s I saw on TV. Those leotards they were wearing! I wanted to have those as well. I loved my time as a little ballerina, although I joined in gymnastics a few years later. I loved to do gymnastics as well, wearing my amazing leotards! At this moment I don’t do gymnastics myself anymore, but I’m still a gymnastics teacher.

What do you love to do in your free time?
- I love to go out for dinner, watch a movie or enjoy myself in a fun park. Also I love laying on the couch all day watching series (mostly Grey’s anatomy).

What can't you live without?
- My friends, family and boyfriend (and my two rabbits; Nelis and Noortje)

Where have you lived?
- I have lived in The Hague, where I was born. Later on I moved to Nootdorp. In March 2014 I moved to Rijswijk, where I live together with my boyfriend.
